The opening and closing of the holy shrines follow the age-old traditional almanac. Highly auspicious dates are considered for the opening and closing of the holy portals of the shrines. As per traditions, this holy yatra starts in clockwise direction that is west to east. Yes, it means the yatra starts from Yamnotri, continues to Gangotri, proceeding to Kedarnath and ends at Badrinath. As per history, mythology and legends all the four temples has their own significance. Infact, it is a strong belief among hindus that everyone should visit Char Dhams atleast once in a lifetime to attain salvation and to wash away the lifetime sins. Char dham Yatra 2017 is famous Hindu pilgrimage located in Uttrakhand State of India. Char Dham Yatra consists of Yamuotri Temple, Gangotri Temple, Shri Kedarnath Ji temple and Shri Badrinath ji temple. All Four Temples are located in Uttrakhand State of India. Yamunotri and Gangotri Dham portals are thrown open on Akshay Tritiya, considered auspicious by Hindus. The Kedarnath shrine opens for the pilgrims on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shiv Chaturdashi or Shiv-Ratri. Since Kedarnath ji is considered an incarnation of Shiv, or Lord Shiv himself, so Shivratri is considered the best day to visit him. Badrinath, on the other hand, opens on Basant Panchami, another auspicious day.

- Gangotri Temple – The Kapat of Shri Gangotri Temple will open on 28 April 2017.
- Kedarnath Temple – The Kapat of Shri Kedarnath Temple will open on 03 May 2017.
- Badrinath Temple – The Opening ceremony of Shri Badrinath Temple will on 06 May 2017.
Doors of the four temples will shut during Diwali days, which are 19 October 2017. Because of severe weather conditions, the doors of Gangotri, Yamnotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath temples remain close for almost six months.
